Abstract:
The shapefile MTCokingCoaDeposits represents locations of coking coal deposits in the State of Montana in the United States based on map locations described in Fisher (1909), Calvert (1909, 1912a, 1912b), Lord and others (1913), and Combo and others (1945). The shapefile format can be viewed using ArcGIS or any software package that supports this data format.
Purpose:
The shapefile is intended for use in a GIS project to display the deposits of coking coal in the State of Montana.

Latitude and longitude values for this mine were determined using the National Map Advanced Viewer website (<https://viewer.nationalmap.gov/advanced-viewer/>) with the Bureau of Land Management's Public Land Survey System (PLSS) boundaries displayed. The latitude and longitude values were entered into a spreadsheet and saved as a CSV file. The CSV file was added to an ArcMap project, and the point location of the mine was displayed.
